When The Divorce Spills Out Into The Front Yard...

For Sale Sign

The One That Didn't Make It On The MasterCard Priceless Commercial...

Although it first made me chuckle... It's sad that the trouble behind closed doors had to break out into the front yard...

I'm sure that this is not what MasterCard had in mind when they launched their "Priceless Campaign".

Is it savvy marketing or just a bitter divorce?

What would you think if this "For Sale Sign" was in your neighbor's yard?

Debbie,  Marketing is about drawing attention to your product. I suspect this will be picked up by local news stations and they'll be getting a lot of free advertising. Sad and creative at the same time.

Too funny! Peeked my interest! I would definintely be going to that open house!

Posted by Nicole Nicolay (MyTechOpinion) about 1 year ago

How funny it would be if the sellers were happily married and just did this to attract attention to their listing.

Beth - Like Richard said, this could be the best way to get attention - I took the bait.

When my neighbor was going through a divorce I would have paid to have the sign made for her.  He was such a jerk!!!

That is pretty funny!  Imagine if a Realtor put a sign up that was that big, how quickly would the town be there to complain about the size???

Melody - We sold a house for a couple that was divorcing... The neighbors hated the husband and told everyone that the house had termites and would take all the flyers at night.

Chris -  I can only imagine what the neighbors think...

Sad situation but a really funny sign!  HA!  We seem to have a few of these going around these parts also! KM

I look at the sign and think "Can I get a really good deal?"  How bad do they want to get divorce?  Enough to all most give it away?  Could be asking for some really low offers.

Areal funny sign, whatever works!

Very creative marketing. Like the post above, whatever works.

I think its brilliant.  It is original, it gets people talking and you can bet that it will get the added exposure that listings in most areas need today.  I'm not sure it would work in our community, but I give the creator kudos for marketing outside the box.

Very good idea...definitely catches your eye.  Sort of along the same mentatlity as the "ugly yellow sign" theory

Posted by Brian Hollenbeck (Shorewest Realtors) about 1 year ago

Bill - It does stand out... Actually, you can't miss it.

Kim - I agree... It is funny and sad, maybe brilliant?

Kristin - I can only imagine what people would really like to say on their signs.

Joseph - I'll keep you posted on the sign.

Kristin- I agree... I think it is brilliant - but could also be hurtful if they have children.

Kelly - I'm with you... Everyone I've shared it with thought that it was very original.

Brian- I concur...  It says something for MasterCard, the ads have set a tone with people.

Creative marketing at its finest!  It is sad, but this is going to set the property apart.

Hi Debbie that is pretty good. Some people will do anything for some attention:)

Posted by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty) about 1 year ago

Hi Debbie~ Hey! If it works, why not? It certainly gets your attention, but it may not send the "right' message.........may be perceived as desperate to sell.... I wouldn't use it as an Agent, but a seller can

Very sad situation, and don't know if I would advertise it.

Posted by Sharon Paxson Newport Beach Real Estate (Prudential California Realty, DRE License 01501912) about 1 year ago

Debbie, Very interesting! I would think bitter divorce after seeing this sign and immediately think the price is probably very negotiable!

Posted by Vickie Roberts (Home Realty GMAC) about 1 year ago

Catchy but an invite to a low offer.

The only problem I see with it though is being advertised most people are going to ask what went wrong.  The male buyer will likey side with the husband, the female buyer is going to side with the wife.  So while the Male Buyer wants to help a poor guy out, the female buyer will not want to help this SOB with his divorce.

We had one of these cases in my neighborhood (though it was a rental property).  Gotta be honest, we spent alot of time on our front porches.  The entire neighborhood had very maintained landscaping that summer until the drama ended.

Debbie~ So I'm guessing this sign wasn't in a "deed" restricted community? Ouch...I wonder how the wife feels about the husband's communication of their motiviation to sell?? Maybe his lack of maturity is one of the reasons for the divorce?? Just a thought...

You know it is getting more attention than any other for sale sign, but will it actually produce a sale? That is to be seen isn't it?

Oh my word... My mouth is still hanging open. I hope children don't live there. Imagine having to take the school bus with that staring in everyone's face. Funny and sad at the same time...

It is a shame, people lose their privacy and don't care. It becomes a war of feelings or lack of.
