OPT OUT... Stop The Madness of Unsolicited Telephone Book Deliveries

I received an email a few minutes ago from a friend of mine with the title "Yellow Pages Goes Green", I clicked to find the website "Yellow Pages Goes Green" that you can register your address on to OPT OUT of receiving printed phone books.  I was excited to say the least, I use Google or other online sources to find business and people.  I haven't used a phone books in years.

In November I was actually home when the books were being delivered and ask the delivery man to keep ours, he seemed stunned and hesitantly took it back.  He even told me that if anyone asks, he tried to deliver it.  Did I save a tree?  I hope so!

If you are interested in OPTING OUT from receipt of Telephone Books please click the Yellow Pages Goes Green link here.

Awecome info!  What a wast of paper all those phone books are!!  Thank you so much for sharing this!

This is COOL, Debbie!

Thanks for sharing!  Each year, we have thrown out two or three thick, Chicago phone books we rarely ever look at.  They get dated quickly, and the Internet is a better resource for looking up neighbors and businesses - quickly, and accurately.

And, doing that is a lot friendlier to the environment!

Thanks for the share!

Carol Lee - I OPTED OUT as soon as I checked out their site...  Most phone books go to waste anyway.

Dean - I hope everyone who doesn't use phone books, Yes I know there are folks out there who still do... takes advantage of this site and STOPS THE MADNESS!

Great suggestion! The majority of the agents in our office toss them in the recycle bin the minute they're dropped off. Thanks for sharing!!

OMG - this is wonderful. Not only do I not use them and they are bad for the environment, but when you live in a 4 story townhome and your ohome office is on the top floor, they are darn heavy. Merci

Debbie-OMG I am in heaven! I put in my home address, then my office and so on and so on...What the heck took them so long?  I have been waiting for something like this forever.  I have gotten at least 7 in the last few months.  What do they think we carry them with us too?  Thanks so much for posting the link!

Telephone books are such a waste however there are studies out there that a crap ton of women still use them. My boyfriend has the marketing research.

Great information.  We quit receiving paperbooks in our office this year.  Going green is good!

It seems like there are 10 different phone companies in our area and they all deliver multiple books to each business and home.  Lots of waste there!

Ok, I HAVE to check this out for my area. I absolutely HATE HATE HATE the waste of the yellow pages. Whatever I need, I look up online. Now if they could take the money from printing those books and make a decent online directly, I'd be really happy!

Debbie, thank you for putting this out there.  My phone books haven't made it out of the delivery bag for years.  From time to time, I try to use one at the office but can't find what I'm looking for.  At least now maybe mine won't kill a tree.

WOW, my phone books go from the steps to the trash!  My wife always gets mad when I toss them, so I kept the last one.  Almost a year later its still in the plastic it came in???  We look everything up online.

Debbie:

I agree, by us we get 3 different books. Use none. Everything is on line.

I saw another post like this and wish I had done one... I try to remind myself to opt out and, next thing I know, I have another pile of books on the porch.

Thank you for posting this.  I just did a blog bit on this.  3-4 times a year the phone book companies blanket our whole building and then my whole neighborhood with these books.  I keep 1 copy at the office and all the other books go straight into the reclycle bin.
